The majority of the capital of the Como Women company is now American. Thatโs who bought the Italian womenโs soccer club.
Whose Como Women? News of the purchase of a majority stake in Como Women by the Mercury 13 fund has made the rounds of international news outlets. In the video we explain who is behind Mercury Found and why the Como company was specifically chosen.
Why Mercury 13 bought Como Women
The Como womenโs team unlike other Womenโs Series A teams is not part of a menโs club. The team was established in the 1970s and has a long history. In 2019 it was purchased by Como entrepreneur Stefano Verga, who is still the companyโs president.
Mercury/13, Victoire Cogevina Reynalโs U.S. fund, which bought Como women has earmarked $100 million to invest in soccer teams around the world.
Reynal and his co-CEO, Mario Malavรฉ, recruited prominent figures to support this initiative, including former England international soccer player Eni Aluko and Ebru Koksal of Women in Football.
Como because of its management was considered by investors to be a virtuous project in line with their goals. This led to the acquisition of a majority stake in a small womenโs soccer club in Italy, which then became an Italian-American reality with entrepreneurs who believe in womenโs football. Stefano Verga remains president, while new members are part of the board.
A new chapter in its history has begun for Como Women.
