If we were to sum up the performance of Italy’s national women’s soccer team against Finland in a few words, we would have to say that the result was fair. Women’s Italy played poorly and had weight. Women’s national team coach Soncin acknowledged that the start of the match was difficult, but pointed out that as time passed, the team found a more effective game organization. Despite this, there was room for improvement in the second half of the match: the players searched until the end for the equalizer, creating opportunities that, according to Soncin, could have been better exploited.
However, the game was an opportunity to learn from an opposing team that leveraged its physical strength and ability to take advantage of “dirty balls.” Andrea Soncin expressed regret for not approaching the second half with a different strategy, which could have changed the outcome of the game.
Therefore, women’s Italy returns home with only three points: too few to be comfortable ahead of the Euro 2025 qualifiers. And although we are only at the beginning, the road now gets more complicated, as the next game will be against Norway at the end of May.
In summary, we did not see the Italy Team Women as combative and gritty as in the match against the Netherlands, but a lot of confusion and inaccuracy, which led the National Team of Finland to win by a comeback thanks to Linari’s own goal.
Now, however, the women’s Serie A championship begins again, and Soncin and his staff will have a chance to reflect on the upcoming call-ups and the women’s national team’s next opponents.
