Swiss women’s national team, players summoned by Pia Sundhage for first friendly matches for Euro 2025.
Pia Sundhage, coach of the Swiss women’s national team, has reduced the list of players summoned for the first friendly matches of Euro 2025 to 23 players. Notable among the new additions are the first call-ups of Nadine Böhi, an emerging talent from FC St. Gallen, and Lydia Andrade, a forward from RB Leipzig, who gets her first call-up to the national team after a favorable season. A welcome return is that of Servette FCCF player Laura Felber, who returns to wear the jersey of the Swiss national team. However, for Sundhage, who has been at the helm of the Swiss national team since last January, there is no shortage of problems.
Euro 2025 Swiss national team qualification players summoned
The most felt absence will be that of captain Lia Wälti, who was forced to miss commitments due to a knee injury. This situation imposes a tactical challenge for Sundhage, who will have to cope with the lack of a key pawn.
Some promising youngsters, Noemi Ivelj, Lia Kamber and Leela Egli, were instead delegated to the Under-19 national team to participate in a tournament in Portugal, following a strategy shared with Veronica Maglia, coach of the Under-19 team, aimed at maximizing opportunities for growth through international competition. Viola Calligaris, a Juventus Women soccer player who arrived in Turin on loan from PSG, is also part of the Red Swiss lineup.
The qualifying matches look set to be a major test, with Switzerland facing Turkey and Azerbaijan on April 5 and April 9, respectively. These matches will be crucial for Sundhage to refine the game strategy and consolidate a solid group to focus on for the upcoming challenges of the Swiss women’s national team.
The women’s national soccer team of Switzerland on the occasion of their home match will hold a training session open to the public at the Chrummen Sports Complex in Freienbach. Scheduled for April 3, 2024 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., the initiative offers fans and lovers of women’s soccer a chance to see the female athletes playing for the Red Swiss team up close as they prepare for their first match against Turkey ahead of Euro 2025.
