The eight-time European champion womenโs football team has appointed Joe Montemurro in place of Sonia Bompastor who replaced Emma Hayes former Chelsea womenโs coach and now leading the US national football team.

Joe Montemurro, an Australian native of Melbourne, has recently concluded a three-year period as head coach of the Juventus womenโs team in Turin, during which he achieved immediate success. In the 2021/22 season, his first season, he won the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana, achieving a historic treble. Overall, Montemurro secured five trophies with Juventus girl, making the Italian club shine on the European stage, reaching the quarter-finals of the Womenโs Champions League against Olympique Lyon in March 2022.
Holder of the UEFA Pro license, Montemurro previously coached the youth teams of Australia for four seasons (2017-2021) and, in particular, the Arsenal womenโs team. With Arsenal, he won several important titles, including the FA Womenโs League Cup in 2018 and the Womenโs Super League in 2019, ending a seven-year streak without a national title for the London club. This success earned him the title of Coach of the Year in England from the League Managers Association.

The Australian coach will be in charge for two seasons from July 4, 2024, until June 30, 2026.
